ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County School Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett recommended the approval of the 2026-2027 fiscal year school division budget at last night’s school board meeting. 

This includes the school operating budget in the amount of about $201 million, the school capital project budget in the amount of $63 million, and the school food service budget in the amount of $7 million. 

Dr. Shifflett acknowledged some projects that possibly could have been worked on if they had more funds. 

“But we have to make decisions and try to focus on, what we have to take care of in the immediate term right now, this school year, and what things can wait another year or two. They’re on the list,” said Dr. Shifflett.

Dr. Shifflett will present the approved budget to the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday at 6 PM.
