ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced the Community Development Block Grant awards for 2024.
Rockingham County received the full award amount of $100,000 for a Planning Grant for the Briery Branch Community Center. This program is administered through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and was applied for in partnership with the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission (CSPDC).
Rockingham County previously conducted a public input survey which indicated that 63% of residents in the Briery Branch, Ottobine, and Clover Hill areas would utilize childcare services at the Center, and 86% were in favor of the proposed renovation project which includes childcare and afterschool programs. The services provided by the renovated facility will benefit low- and moderate-income individuals and families in the community. The Planning Grant program is designed to aid in developing clearly articulated strategies for addressing communities’ greatest community development needs following meaningful citizen participation.
