ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Another book will be removed from library shelves in Rockingham County Public Schools.

Despite the Content Review Committee’s recommendation to retain the book, the school board voted four-to-one to remove ‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’ by Garth Stein.

Board member Jackie Lohr cast the lone dissenting vote, while Hollie Cave made the motion to remove the book.

Cave said that she stands firmly with Rockingham County Public Schools policy, and her motion was not made lightly. “I’m not that person that’s always like ‘Oh it’s got sex in it. It’s bad. Take it out.” I deeply think about these things. I would let my children read this book. But it doesn’t comply with RCPS policy, and that’s why it has to go.”

Cave moved to pull several other books that the committee recommended for retention earlier this month.
