ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County Fire officials are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed a barn this afternoon west of Broadway.
Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway says the call came in shortly after 12:30 and when units arrived at the barn in the 9200 block of Brocks Gap Road, they found the structure engulfed in flames.
“There were several vehicles, older vehicles inside this barn. It really wasn’t used for barn anymore. It’s more of a maybe a storage for vehicles and things like that. So, I believe it was 6 to 8 vehicles that were lost inside this barn,” said Holloway.
Holloway says it took crews about 45 minutes to have the fire under control. He says firefighters did a good job of containing the fire to just barn and not spread, considering the winds and low humidity.
Two firefighters did suffer minor injuries.
