BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County Fire and Rescue officials had to rescue several people from a burning house Wednesday morning in the Broadway area.
Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway reported that the call came in shortly before 8:30 and crews were dispatched to the 300 block of Broadmoor Lane.
“When crews arrived, they found two people had jumped from a second-story window while a third person was hanging out of window,” Holloway explained. Personnel deployed a ladder and rescued the woman out of a second-floor window.”
“Then, when crews entered the house,” Holloway added, “Three more people came out of the house and firefighters made an attack on the fire, which was on the second floor.”
One person was airlifted to V-C-U Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation while three others were taken to Sentara R-M-H, also for smoke inhalation.
Holloway thanked all the firefighters for their work in putting out the fire as quickly as possible.
The cause remains under investigation.
