ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, under the leadership of Clerk of Court Chaz W. Haywood, announced its partnership with Yondr, becoming the first circuit court in the Commonwealth of Virginia to implement the company’s innovative phone-lock pouch system.

The Yondr pouch initiative enhances courtroom decorum, protects privacy, and facilitates access to justice by allowing visitors to retain their phones securely locked and inactive during proceedings. Should access be necessary to present digital evidence or information, court personnel can unlock the pouch.

“Courtrooms must be spaces where everyone can be fully present and proceedings can take place without digital distractions,” said Clerk Haywood in a release. “By partnering with Yondr, we are implementing a straightforward and effective solution that promotes attentiveness, security, and protects privacy in today’s technology-driven world while avoiding unnecessary barriers.”

Previously, court attendees were required to store their phones in lockers, which often caused delays and inconvenience. The new Yondr system streamlines this process by allowing individuals to retain physical possession of their devices in locked pouches, minimizing disruptions and supporting an efficient, respectful courtroom experience.
