Autumn is approaching in the Shenandoah Valley and the Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA has some furry friends for you to explore the leaves changing, pumpkin patch adventures, and cuddling when the weather gets cooler. Here are a few pet features for this fall:

Dogs

Meet Melvin:

This funky looking dude is Melvin! He has some specific requests for his next home. If you know the infectious spirit or shepherds or huskies, you will love Melvin. He needs a home with no small critters. That means no cats, tiny dogs (under 40lbs), or little humans (under 13 years old if children are present). Melvin is not the type for a first-time dog owner. If you’ve had a shepherd or husky before you’ll know… they take a special person to set them up for a lifetime of success but can be great companions. Particularly if you have experience training a dog with behavioral needs before, you may be a great fit to ensure he never finds himself bored. Melvin is not the type that enjoys the cooped-up lifestyle of an apartment or condo so his adopter must live in a house. If you are looking for a neat addition to your home and think it is the right one for Melvin, please submit an application!

Hello! I’m Blue, and I thrive on attention and cuddles, there’s no doubt my boundless energy will keep you on your toes. Despite my playful nature, I’m well-suited for a quiet home with older children. I don’t mind cats but need a home without other dogs. I like to be the center of attention. I would make a great hiking buddy for an active household. If you’re looking for a loyal and energetic companion, adopt me today!

Meet Tony:

Meet Sweet Tony (AKA Tonster, Tony Bologna), a lovable dog who thrives on attention and adores a challenging game of tug of war. He’s a fetch master who never seems to get tired, always ready for another round. With his boundless energy and affectionate nature, Tony would make an exceptional household pet and will become your best friend in no time! Here’s what his new foster has to say about him

“After only 4 days he has adjusted amazingly! He loves his walks and is very agile for being an older pup! Not only is he great in car rides but loves meeting all the college kids at JMU! He is AVAILABLE for adoption, specifically a home without other dogs. He does well with cats, and older children (above 13). Thank you RHSPCA for giving us four college gals an opportunity to house Tony for now!”

If Tony sounds like the gentleman for you, apply for him today!

Cats

Meet Tiesha:

Meet Tiesha! She is a lovely senior kitty who is looking for her new best friend. Tiesha’s nerves get the best of her when things change, and she needs space so that she can adjust on her own time. She’s incredibly sweet and affectionate once she warms up, and never passes up an opportunity to have a treat! If Tiesha sounds like the cat your home needs – come visit her at the shelter!

Meet Anatasia:

Anastasia | Source: RHSPCA

Meet Anastasia, a deaf senior feline with a heart full of love. Despite her advanced years, she exudes a youthful spirit that’s infectious. Her friendly demeanor and sweet nature make her an instant favorite among staff and visitors alike. Mellow and easy-going, Anastasia enjoys the simple pleasures of life, like a good chin scratch or a cozy nap in a sunbeam. Her serene presence brings a calming energy to any room. While she’s content in her current environment, she’s ready to share her golden years with a loving family. The adoption of Anastasia would not only bring joy to her life but also enrich the life of her new family with her unwavering companionship and unconditional love.

Meet Luca:

Luca | Source: RHSPCA

Meet Luca, a quiet, reserved fellow. Luca just needs a patient family that will allow him to slowly open up. He enjoys gentle head pets and once he trusts you, then he will let you give him all the belly rubs. He currently lives with 3 foster kittens, 80% of the time he enjoys them…the other 20% well he just ignores them. Luca has also been very relaxed with our home’s adult resident cats. He has such a cute chirpy meow when he explores. Right now, nighttime is his favorite time to roam and sneak kitten kibble. Luca will be an amazing addition to a patient family willing to allow him to blossom with time.

Join the RHSPCA in Pick Your Price adoptions for all adult dogs, cats, and kittens throughout the month of September
