ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Crews rushed to a farm in Port Republic last night to rescue an animal in distress. Rockingham County Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to Mill Creek Church Road after receiving a call around 7:30 last night regarding a cow stuck in a pond.
“Upon our arrival, we did find a cow in a pond with her legs stuck down in the mud,” Chief Jeremy Holloway said. “We removed the mud around from the cow’s leg and used a pulley system. We got the cow up out of the water, brought her up to the bank, and got to her safety.”
Chief Holloway gave credit to the Technical Rescue Team for their training and skills in animal extraction that made the 2 and half hour rescue possible.
The cow is reportedly recovering well after sustaining a back injury in the incident.
