HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A reported structure fire in Harrisonburg Monday morning that required a lengthy response by emergency crews was ultimately declared a false alarm.

According to scanner traffic, firefighters were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. to a housing complex in the 800 block of Port Republic Road after an automatic fire alarm was triggered.

Harrisonburg Fire Chief Matt Tobia said that crews quickly realized it was a non-issue.

“When crews got on location, they actually found no evidence of fire whatsoever, but remained on location,” Tobia said. “One Engine remained on location for a long time, waiting for the occupant to return, so they didn’t have to break down the door and the occupant return. They were able to open the door and confirm that there was no fire whatsoever.”

The case remained open for more than an hour and a half.
