ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – At approximately 3:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery at the Virginia ABC Store located at 2196 John Wayland Highway.

According to a release, a male subject entered the store and concealed two bottles of liquor in his jacket and went to the checkout and attempted to pay for an additional bottle of liquor. His payment card attempt was declined, and he then pulled back his jacket to reveal a handgun on his hip. He then fled the store on foot.

The suspect was spotted several hours later in the area and was detained by ABC agents until RCSO arrived and arrested him on charges of Armed Robbery, Brandishing a Firearm and Public Intoxication. He was identified as Dewy Lee Bowers III, 48, of Augusta County and was taken to the Rockingham Harrisonburg Regional Jail. He is being held without bond at this time.
