Rockingham County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett presented his Budget Recommendation for the 2025-2026 school year.
The priorities from the 2024-2029 Comprehensive Plan highlighted in the budget was School Safety, Academic Excellence, Employee Recruitment and Retention, Student Behavioral Health, and Collaboration with Rockingham County Staff and Leadership.
The total budget would be $189,244,497. This is a 7.13% increase.
The budget includes a 3% raise on all salary scales as well as providing food service programs to all 23 schools.
“I think it would behoove us in the future maybe to have conversations with our liaison committee about looking over a 3- or 4-year span of what we perceive in our budget,” said Dr. Shifflett. “Not knowing everything, it will have to be flexible.”
The Rockingham County School Board will hold a special meeting today, March 25, 2025, to vote on the recommendation.
