ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue is offering a Juvenile Fire-Setter Intervention program for caregivers of children who demonstrate a concerning interest in fire.
Authorities say responsible adults should keep matches and lighters of all types up high and out children’s reach, and that kids of all ages should be taught to tell a grown-up if they find flammable materials around the home.
The Department suggests locking lighters in cabinets with child locks because they resemble toys and often confuse young children.
Parents interested in the free intervention program should contact the Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue.
