HARRISONBURG VA: (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) has indeed reported a significant increase in vehicle break-ins recently. Since September, there have been 36 incidents involving 40 cars1. Sergeant Wayne Westfall emphasized the importance of locking car doors and hiding valuables, as a staggering 90% of vehicle break-ins occur because the doors are left unlocked.
HPD is urging residents to be vigilant and take preventive measures to protect their vehicles and belongings. This includes always locking your car, even if you’re just stepping away for a short time, and keeping valuables out of sight to deter potential thieves.
