AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The brother of Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith was supposed to enter a plea Wednesday morning on the five charges he faces.
Online records showed that the plea hearing for Ronald William Smith was continued until Jan. 27 in Augusta County Circuit Court.
Smith, 41, was indicted by a grand jury back in May on charges that include two counts of attempted malicious assault of a law enforcement officer as well as felony eluding.
It is all in connection with an incident that happened the day after last Christmas when authorities claim that he stole a semi-truck from the sheriff’s property and led deputies on a chase.
Smith is currently free on bond.
