Phyllis Diehl Hensley, 81, of Grottoes, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. Born on November 1, 1943, in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Clark and Edna Arlene (Simmers) Diehl.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved life partner, Ray Clemmer, and two brothers, William Diehl and Meredith Diehl. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Diehl (Delores); sister-in-law, Nancy Diehl; her two daughters, Karen Riggio (Scott) and Kimberly Artime (Hank); three granddaughters, Karissa Gregory (Thomas), Summer Couch (Andrew), and Kaitlyn Anderson (Jason Taylor); and six great-grandsons, Carter Gregory, Jackson Gregory, Tanner Couch, Austin Couch, John Taylor, and Kole Taylor. Phyllis is also remembered by many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A devoted family member, Phyllis found joy in gathering her loved ones around her table, often sharing her mother’s famous recipes. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her great-grandsons, who brought light and happiness to her in later years.

Known for her calming presence, Phyllis always offered a listening ear to those in need. Her gentle spirit and compassionate heart made her a pillar of strength for family and friends. She had a remarkable ability to provide advice without judgment, and her love was always unconditional.

Her family will remember her for her unwavering kindness, deep love for those around her, and her pure, golden heart.

A service in her honor will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 8, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home and Crematory, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 with Pastor Glen Bollinger officiating. A private family burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Keezletown Road, Weyers Cave, VA 24486. The family sends special thanks to the staff at Augusta Health for their support and help.
