HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – On Thursday May 1, 2025, The Officers of The Salvation Army, Members of the Rotary Club of Rockingham County and Harrisonburg Mayor Deanna Reed will dedicate a Peace Pole at noon at the Salvation Army. The Peace Pole was recently installed at The Salvation Army near the intersection of Ashby Avenue and Jefferson Street and is adjacent to the city’s Northend Greenway which is part of the city’s shared use path.

Rotary International focuses on humanitarian service and global initiatives, including peacebuilding. Rotary Clubs have set a mission to plant Peace Poles as a powerful symbol of unity and a reminder of the universal desire for peace. Peace poles are a physical reminder of the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages, fostering a sense of shared humanity.

Lt. Douglas Ingold of The Salvation Army Harrisonburg Corps said in a press release, “Having the Peace Pole located by The Salvation Army offices was a fitting addition and goes hand in hand with our mission and values.”
