PAGE COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – It is a year in jail for the Page County man convicted of strangulation on the Mary Baldwin University campus nearly a year ago.

According to online records, Alex Paxton of Shenandoah was sentenced to five years in prison with four of those years suspended during a hearing Monday in Staunton Circuit Court.

While a jury convicted the 24-year-old Paxton in November on the strangulation charge, they acquitted him of the rape and abduction by force charges.

Staunton Police reported the attack happened on February 17th of last year in a dormitory room and Paxton was arrested 10 days later in Harrisonburg.

He was also convicted of a misdemeanor charge and received a one-year suspended sentence for that.
