STAUNTON, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A jury has found a Page County man accused of raping a woman on the Mary Baldwin University campus guilty on one of the three charges he faced.

After a three-day trial, a Staunton Circuit Court jury convicted Alex Paxton of Shenandoah Friday morning on a charge of strangulation while acquitting him on the rape and abduction by force charges.

Staunton Police reported that the alleged attack took place on Feb. 17 in a dormitory room. Paxton, 24, was arrested in Harrisonburg 10 days later.

He will be sentenced on Feb. 10.
