HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg City Council has unanimously approved a major housing project that would be built around the old Frazier Quarry. Waterman Investments will build over 900 housing units around the old quarry that would be converted into a lake.

The Planning Commission voted unanimously last month to recommend the project.

While she voted yes to the project, Mayor Deanna Reed asked, “how does this match what we’re trying to do in the city?”

The Quarry Heights project would include 869 multi-family units and 48 single-family units. The construction investment would be $216 million.

Thahn Dang, Deputy Director of Community Development in Harrisonburg says these units will be market rate. One of the developers, Tony Russ, said the three story townhomes could be upwards of 400 thousand dollars. Single family homes could be upwards of 500 thousand dollars.
The project is expected to take 8 to 10 years to complete.
