PAGE COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — One inmate has died after a medical emergency in Page County Jail.

Page County Sheriff Chad Cubbage says the incident happened on Friday, January 10 at approximately 11:33. The inmate had just previously been evaluated, treated, and released from a medical facility for underlying health problems.

Upon return to the jail, the inmate collapsed and went unresponsive. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures and contacted EMS. Page County EMS responded and continued life-saving measures. Unfortunately, the inmate did not survive.

Cubbage adds that per Department of Corrections protocols, an in-custody death is taken under jurisdiction of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The body was transported to the OCME in Manassas for an autopsy.

No additional information was released. Sheriff Cubbage noted that their sympathies and prayers are with the family and friends of the inmate.
