HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Harrisonburg Police Department is seeking information from the community following a shooting this afternoon in the area of Blue Ridge Drive that left one person with injuries. The shooting was an isolated event and there is no known threat to the public related to this incident.
The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center received 911 calls at approximately 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, reporting hearing multiple shots fired in the 1000 block of Blue Ridge Drive. HPD officers arrived in the area and immediately set up a perimeter, asking area community members to shelter inside in a safe place in order to protect the safety of the community in case a suspect remained in the area and to allow the investigation to be conducted. That shelter in place order has since been lifted.
Officials were informed shortly after arriving at the scene that one person had arrived at Sentara RMH with a gunshot wound. HPD has no information to provide regarding the individual’s condition at this time.
