WARREN COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Virginia State Police continues to investigate what caused that fatal crash that has snarled traffic all afternoon on Interstate 66 at exit 6 and route 522 north of Front Royal.

Sergeant Brent Coffey said the accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. when a collision occurred between a westbound passenger vehicle and a westbound tractor-trailer, which caused the tractor-trailer to run off the interstate and come to rest on Route 522.

The tractor-trailer then caught fire. Coffey confirmed one person has died as a result.
