AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on April 1 at the intersection of the off-ramp from Interstate 81 northbound and Route 262 in Augusta County.
VSP Spokesperson Matt Demlein says a 2020 Hyundai SUV was travelling southbound on Route 262 when it was unable to avoid a tractor trailer that had exited Interstate 81 northbound and was attempting to turn onto Route 262 northbound. The SUV became wedged underneath the tractor trailer.
The driver of the SUV who died at the scene was 57-year- old Cynthia Dean of Staunton.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Sayed Hamidullah, of Omaha, Neb., was not injured. Hamidullah has been charged with reckless driving.
