AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Augusta County Fire and Rescue officials are investigating what caused a fire Wednesday morning that damaged a poultry house in the Mount Solon area.
Lieutentant Wayne Huppman explains the call came in shortly after 9:30 and crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Whitmore Road.
“A crew from Churchville was the first to arrive on scene about five minutes after being dispatched.” Huppman explained. “They found light gray smoke showing from a 50-by-500 empty poultry house. Firefighters immediately deployed an inch and three-quarter attack line and began fire suppression efforts.”
Huppman said it took firefighters about 10 minutes before having the fire under control.
One person was treated at the scene for potential smoke inhalation.
Huppman added that an electrical issue may have been a contributing factor in the cause.
Other crews who responded include Mount Solon Fire, Swoope Fire. Augusta County Battalion Chief, Augusta County 10, Staunton Fire and Rescue, Bridgewater Fire and Verona Fire Departments.
