UPDATE: According to Middle River Regional Jail records, the occupant has been identified as Christina Ritchie, 43, of Fulks Run. She has been charged with arson.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A woman has been charged in connection with a fire that destroyed a home in Fulks Run earlier this week on Monday, June 5.

Christina Ritchie, 43, was arrested by members of the Rockingham County Fire Marshal and Sheriff’s offices on Wednesday and charged with arson, according to jail records. She was an occupant of the residence – located in the 8300 block of Hopkins Gap Road – but not the owner, according to a press release from the Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue.

Ritchie was not present when responders arrived, the release said. She is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center received a call early Monday afternoon structure fire with flames and smoke showing from a two-story residence, according to county Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway.

“Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home,” Holloway said. “However, the home was a total loss and is estimated to be worth around $100,000.”

Members of the Clover Hill Volunteer Fire Company, Singer’s Glen Volunteer Fire Department, Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, and Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue responded to the fire.
