Nona M. Vandevander 93, of Harrisonburg passed away on May 15, 2024. A daughter of the late Alfred Eugene and Edith Flora Ransom, she was born on March 06, 1931, in Lepanto, AR., and graduated with honors from Mayflower High School in Mayflower, AR.

Mrs. Vandevander met her husband, Charles O. Vandevander while he was in the service in 1949 and they were married on February 03, 1950. Mrs. Vandevander moved to Harrisonburg in 1967 upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force. During her long life and marriage, she travelled through much of the US and had lived in several different states including a short residence in the Azores Islands.

Mrs. Vandevander had retired from IMCO/Brockway Plastics in Harrisonburg after more than 20 years of employment. In addition to her love for family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Vandevander loved flowers and spent much of her time working in her yard, which garnered many compliments from friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Vandevander was preceded in death by her husband, Charles O. Vandevander, on August 29, 1991, a son Charles E. Vandevander on June 17, 1990 and a grandson David A. Vandevander on May 23, 2017.

She is survived by her son, David R. Vandevander and wife, Dottie, of Mt. Sidney, daughter, Vanessa V. Thompson and significant other, Barry Long, of Harrisonburg; three granddaughters, Dana Layman, Jessica Thompson and Chloe Thompson; 12 great granddaughters and 3 great-great granddaughters.
