HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — A new Chair and Vice Chair were elected to the Harrisonburg City School Board for 2026 during last night’s meeting.

Vice Chair Tim Howley was elected as Chair of the School Board and Matt Snyder as Vice Chair.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards also took time to give recognition to Howley and former Chairperson Emma Phillips.

“Again, it was a difficult year, but, and when I say this, I say it on behalf of staff. You helped me get through the challenges. We worked as a team, and that I’m saying on behalf of all staff, because when you support me, I support them,” said Dr. Richards.

Dr. Richards presented Phillips and Howley commemorating their work on the board from January to December 2025.

Meanwhile, Dr. Andy Kohen, the longest serving member on the board, announced that he will not seek reelection this fall after 11 years on the board.
