ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Rockingham County School Superintendent, Dr. Larry Shifflett sent out an email this afternoon to students, parents and staff regarding a cybersecurity incident with PowerSchool, an international provider of education administration software.
The incident occurred late last month and despite the restoration of PowerSchool’s system security, unauthorized access exposed student and educator data across hundreds of school systems nationwide.
In the email, Dr. Shifflett stated that Rockingham County Public Schools utilizes some PowerSchool tools, and he has asked PowerSchool to assess the potential impact of the incident on the community’s data.
Dr. Shifflett added that the school division takes the privacy of students’ and employees’ information very seriously and is committed to holding PowerSchool accountable.
