HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A delegation from the National League of Cities (NLC) visited the Friendly City as part of the local government advocacy organization’s Centennial Roadshow.
As part of a tour celebrating NLC’s 100th anniversary, the organization is travelling to 100 cities across the US, including a visit to Harrisonburg Wednesday morning. Members of Harrisonburg City Council greeted the delegation before taking them on a tour of the city, according to a press release.
The NLC’s visit took them to Harrisonburg City Hall, the Bishop Edgar Love Historical Marker, the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center and Ralph Sampson Park. During the tour, members of the council and the NLC discussed the city’s investments in the Northeast neighborhood, projects using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, and Harrisonburg’s 2043 Vision.
In the release, Harrisonburg Mayor Deanna Reed Harrisonburg’s inclusion in the NLC’s Centennial Roadshow is a testament to the community’s hard work.
“We’re honored to be included in this historic visit from National League of Cities, and for the opportunity to show the important work taking place in Harrisonburg to lift our community up, overcome barriers to progress and boldly address inequities,” Reed said. “We will always strive to be a city that our community is proud of, and that our peers look to as a model locality. I am grateful to NLC for recognizing our efforts with their visit today.”
