WEYERS CAVE, VA (Rocktown Now) – A multivehicle crash shut down all northbound lanes of I-81 Monday evening in the Weyers Cave area.

According to the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company, crews rushed to the scene of the crash in the construction zone near mile marker 236 last evening around 5:20.

Emergency personnel from Weyers Cave, New Hope, Grottoes, and Harrisonburg joined Bridgewater in working the scene.

The accident occurred near an area where roadwork had already closed the left shoulder of the interstate.

At around 6pm, one lane was reopened, allowing traffic to resume that had at one point backed up as far as 6-and-a-half miles.
