HARRISONBURG VA: (ROCKTOWN NOW) — Drivers traveling through the Route 33 corridor in Harrisonburg should prepare for ongoing traffic pattern changes as work progresses on a major infrastructure project.
According to Ken Slack with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), motorists are reminded to observe the photo-enforced speed limit of 25 miles per hour within the work zone. The reduced speed is in place to ensure safety as contractors implement new phases of construction.
The Route 33 project includes significant upgrades, such as bridge replacements and a complete reconfiguration of the interchange at Exit 247 on Interstate 81.
This week marks a key milestone: drivers will begin using a newly constructed ramp connecting northbound I-81 to eastbound Route 33. VDOT urges drivers to stay alert and follow posted signage as they adjust to the new traffic patterns.
