BRIDGEWATER, VA (Rocktown Now) – Hundreds of area voters from as far as Page County gathered in a airplane hanger at Bridgewater’s Dynamic Aviation Saturday, April 11th for a rally headlined by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson opposing the April 21st redistricting referendum.

The “Vote No” event paid for by Virginians for Fair Maps RC began with an invocation by Delegate Tony Wilt, followed by Delegate Chris Runion leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

In the lead-up to Speaker Johnson’s appearance, familiar faces from all over the Commonwealth encouraged the crowd to chant “No” when asked how the crowd intended to vote in this month’s special election, including Virginia Senator Mark Obenshain and Sixth District Congressman Ben Cline.
Fifth District Congressman John McGuire, Second District Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, and First District Congressman Rob Wittman made passionate appeals before former Attorney General Jason Miyares and former Governor Glenn Youngkin called out Governor Spanberger for supporting redistricting after previously pledging to stand against partisan gerrymandering.

“The eyes of America are upon your state right now,” Speaker Johnson said as he took the stage. “The eyes of America are upon you because you have the power in your hands to say no to this totally scandalous, unlawful, unconstitutional Democrat gerrymandering scheme that they’re trying to push upon this state. You get to say no.”

Johnson went on to say that Virginia voters have a chance to say no to what he referred to as “Abigail Spanberger’s charade,” describing the Governor as one who “talks like a moderate but governs like a Marxist.”
