STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — A staple in the Shenandoah Valley’s car industry has passed away.

Charles R. Obaugh Jr. died Tuesday at his home in Staunton at the age of 85.

According to his obituary, Obaugh was a member of the 1957 graduating class at Wilson Memorial High School.

In 1975, he took a leap of faith and incorporated as Charlie Obaugh Pontiac Buick GMC in Staunton and steadily grew his business over the years with his son, Eric.

Obaugh was named Virginia’s Time Dealer of the Year in 2008.

Beyond his business accomplishments, he supported many local charities, including the SPCA, Boys and Girls Club, and the 4H Animal Market Show.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church in Staunton.
