GROTTOES, VA (Rocktown Now) — Grottoes Town Mayor Jo Plaster has announced the addition of a new McDonald’s restaurant that will be located on Augusta Avenue within the town.

McDonald’s closed on the property Wednesday and is scheduled to begin construction immediately, with completion slated for early 2026.

“This is the culmination of four years of work between the Town, McDonald’s and Donna Miller, the property owner,” said Mayor Plaster; the negotiations were tedious and extensive at times, and borderline tenuous where it seemed the deal might not get done, but through relationship building and open communication, we were able to succeed. We are very pleased that we were able to get this accomplished and look forward to welcoming McDonald’s to Grottoes in the very near future.”

The new restaurant will be located in the 200 block of Augusta Avenue (Rte. 340), beside the former Rite Aid building. The building will seat thirty-two patrons and will be complete with a drive-through.

“McDonald’s is an economic driver for any community; they did meticulous market research and realized that the growing community of Grottoes is a market where they will enjoy many years of success. Further, their research also paves the way for future commercial developments that may follow on their heels,” continued Plaster. She further noted that the restaurant will help provide additional revenue to the town in the forms of meals tax, sales tax, real estate and personal property taxes.

Town staff will be working closely with the McDonald’s construction team in the coming months to provide assistance to ensure a timely and successful project.

Plaster concluded, “When I received my mandate as Councilor, now Mayor, I stated then and now, that it is imperative that the Town of Grottoes be viable in order to have a sustainable future and that is exactly what having a franchise, none other than McDonald’s, means.”
