HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A Shenandoah County woman was sentenced to 18 months in prison for using her position as a family member to gain access to her mother’s social security benefits, retirement plan, a checking account and a credit card.

Elizabeth Keegan of Maurertown was sentenced yesterday in US District Court in Harrisonburg.

Keegan pleaded guilty back in January to one count of identity theft and one count of credit card fraud.

She will also serve three years of supervised probation upon release and will be forced to pay nearly $188,000 in restitution.
