Maryana Briel Artope, age 17, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 18, 2024, at her home. Born January 3, 2007, in Harrisonburg, she was the daughter of Martha Wendy Artope and Charles Philip Anzelone.
Maryana was a senior student at Rocktown High School where she was a part of ROTC, HOSA Program, and attended BRCC while in high school. She was dedicated to her studies as a member of the National Honor Society, maintained a 4.1 GPA, and was in the S.T.E.M program with JMU, where she had ambition to attend, striving to be a Pediatric Oncologist. Maryana began working at an early age as a committed employee at Dairy Queen, Home Depot, Starbucks, Burlington, Dunkin, and most recently, Auntie Anne’s. She will be remembered as a genuine, kind-loving soul with an infectious smile and caring attributes for everyone. Above all, she had great faith in her Lord. Maryana excelled in basketball, the sport she loved. She was very determined and dedicated in everything. She could see the light in any darkness and strived for success. She had a huge helping heart and was always kind and caring to everyone. She had the most courageous, loving peaceful, calm, wonderful spirit and did everything with her heart. She was honest, pure and so bright.
Surviving are her loving mother and father, Martha Artope and Charles Anzelone of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Charlie Collins and wife, Yelines and Jonathan Artope, all of Harrisonburg; three nieces, Naleiyah Collins, Isabella Perrone, and Ashley Cabrera; nephew, Zyhir Collins; and her loving nana, Martha Scott and adoptive grandparents, Robert and Virginia Ravera; significant other (her heart in human form), Alexis Hardin; her God mothers, Nancy Kalloo, Kelli McHone; God sister, Jordyn McHone; her best friends, Dalea Washington and Tyani Hope.
Also surviving are her many loving cousins, Calli West, Jordan Artope, Chanse Artope, Shajyla Blair, Asia Scott, Alexis Scott, Ariel Scott, Antoinette Tyler, Trevon Rodriguez, and La’Marquis Fuller, including many other cousins; four aunts, Brandy Fuller, Geneva Scott, Tanya Washington and Melissa Snell; three uncles Andre Fuller, Reginald Scott and Alfred Scott; loving friends, Brianah and Glen Ellis, the Hardin Mosee family, and the Adamson Family; her church family at DUCC; many residents at the Highlands at Sunnyside, as well as her loving family and friends in the community.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Patricia Artope.
The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Divine Unity Community Church in Harrisonburg.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 5 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the church with Pastor Marcus Anderson and Elder Reginald Scott officiating. Interment will be private at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
