HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The remains of a man found dead by Harrisonburg Police on Monday night have been identified as a Mount Jackson police officer.

In a release Tuesday, Mount Jackson Police Chief James Cowart confirmed that the body of Officer Chazz Beaver was located during a requested welfare check at his Devon Lane apartment complex.

The discovery sparked a large police response to the property.

Cowart wrote that no “foul play” is suspected in Beaver’s death, which he said was likely caused by an unexpected medical emergency.

The officer had previously worked for Rockingham County and Bridgewater College. He had been with Mount Jackson Police since December 27.
