AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – An Augusta County man is in custody following an armed barricade situation Tuesday night.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at around 10 o’clock to the 100 block of Thomas Drive in the Lyndhurst area for a report of shots fired.
When they arrived, deputies set up a perimeter around the home and evacuated nearby homes.
Lieutenant Leslie Snyder explained that the Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Negotiation Teams responded and were utilized during this incident.
“During the standoff, the suspect came to the rear door of the residence, then retreated,” Snyder said. “Deputies that were on location heard the suspect fire several additional shots inside the residence and out the back door of the home. Deputies gave him verbal commands to surrender. The suspect complied and was taken into custody by the SWAT team without.”
The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Timothy Lee Howdyshell and he faces two charges, including felony unlawful shooting within a building.
He is currently at Middle River Regional Jail pending a bond hearing Thursday afternoon.
