Lunsford Dwight Smith, 79, of Weyers Cave, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fishersville.

Mr. Smith was born September 1, 1944, in Harrisonburg, Va. and was the son of the late Sherby L. and Edna M. Johnson Smith.

Lunsford retired from JMU in February 2017, where he was employed as a groundskeeper. In his younger years, he volunteered as a fire fighter with Hose Co. #4. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing miniature golf, cookouts with family, and anything that involved eating.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy A. Smith; two sons, Timothy Winegord and wife, Angie, and Dwight Smith and wife, Cathy; daughter, Lisa Jenkins and husband, Todd; sister, Wanda Hedrick; seven grandchildren, Chadd, Rebecca, Samantha, Scott, Eliah, Ezzy and Clara Bella; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Mr. Smith’s wishes, there will be no services.
