Louise Belle Butler, 75, of McGaheysville, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024.

Mrs. Butler was born April 4, 1949, in West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Loy Olin and Ottie Bell Ratcliff Whetzel. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Arley Whetzel, and three sisters, Marie Dahmer, Arvella Finnigan and Ardella Clear.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph O’Neill Butler, Jr.; two sons, Tracy Butler and partner, Hannah Shepherd of Afton, and Michael Butler and wife, Rachel of Harrisonburg; a brother, Virgil Whetzel and wife, Gayle of Mt. Crawford; a sister, Luella Montgomery of Alexandria, as well as grandchildren, Sagan Butler, Dylan Butler, Vale Butler, and Zinnia Butler and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise was a graduate of Montevideo High School and a member of Mt. Olive Brethren Church in Pineville. She was employed most recently with Follett Bookstore at James Madison University. She enjoyed volunteering, birdwatching, gardening, and being with her family and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor David Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
