ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — It appears that several people escaped serious injuries this morning when a Rockingham County School bus crashed in Louisa County.
According to a statement from Louisa County, the Rockingham County school bus was involved in an accident on Jefferson Highway near Jouett Elementary late this morning.
Five students and three adults were taken to the hospital with minor injuries while the remaining students were evaluated at the school by Louisa County Fire & E-M-S.
Rockingham County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett stated in an e-mail to WSVA that their immediate priority has been the safety and care of students and staff. Division personnel and principals were present and provided on-site support.
The bus was reportedly heading to the Virginia State Fair for a field trip.
