ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The 41st annual National Night Out is August 6 and many localities will be taking part in the events to prevent crime and drug use.
Harrisonburg Police will be visiting the John Wesley Methodist Church beginning at 5:30 this evening. Following that they will go to Harris Gardens at 6:05, Virginia Retirement Mennonite Community at 6:45, Islamic Association of the Shenandoah Valley at 7:25, and Mosby Court at 8:10.
The Town of Broadway will be hosting their festivities at the Broadway Community Park Pool beginning at 5.
Dayton Police will have their events from 6 to 8 at Sunset Park.
Bridgewater will host festivities at Smiley’s Ice Cream from 5:30 to 8.
Previous year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
- Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
