ROCKINGHAM COUNTY & HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – Several local teachers recently earned top honors for innovative approaches to teaching and learning economics at a statewide Economic Education Awards event presented by James Madison University.

Kimberly Dove from Wilbur S. Pence Middle School won first place and the $1,000 prize for a project entitled “The Ballad of Buyers and Sellers: An A-I Serenade,” where 8th graders used artificial intelligence to create a song explaining how supply and demand impacts the market and prices.

Second prize went to Steve Halteman of John C. Myers Elementary School, and third place was taken home by Dwight Huyard of Skyline Middle School.

This year’s competition took place at the end of last month.
