HARRISONBURG VA (Rocktown Now) — A Harrisonburg man is in custody and will remain in custody following an attempted murder in the Chicago Avenue area.
According to Harrisonburg Police Captain Chris Monahan, authorities received a call stating a woman had been attacked with a knife by an unknown man in the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue around 3:43 yesterday afternoon.
The 54-year-old victim from Harrisonburg was taken to Sentara RMH with critical injuries but is expected to recover.
HPD issued a shelter-in-place shortly after 4pm while canvassing the area looking for the suspect, who had fled the scene. Surveillance footage allowed officers to identify the suspect as Hunter Booth of Harrisonburg.
The Harrisonburg SWAT Team executed a search warrant of the 44-year-old’s home on Chicago Avenue, and he was arrested without incident on a charge of Attempted Murder in the First Degree.
Interestingly, Booth had been out on bond after he was arrested on April 17th on five charges, including two counts of drug possession and resisting arrest. He has a court date scheduled for September 16th on those charges.
