Judy Lane Washington Custer, 81, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024.
Mrs. Custer was born on June 11, 1942 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Henry and Lena Scott Washington. She drove a school bus for Rockingham County Schools and retired from Wampler Foods. She loved to garden and was a wonderful cook who enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends. Her grandchildren loved her “Donut Day” and making homemade potato chips with her family in the backyard. She was a faithful member of Mt. Clinton Church of God and served numerous years as treasurer, and member of the Women’s Committee.
On March 16, 1959, she married Joseph Carl Custer who preceded her in death on August 14, 2019.
Surviving are her children, Joseph Custer and wife Jenny, James Custer and wife Denise, Jeff Custer; sister, Sue Long; grandchildren, Kait Bilston and husband Tom, Levi Custer and wife Casey; Aaron Custer, Caleb Custer, Ben Custer, Crystal Alvarado and husband Armando, Ethan Custer and wife Rachel, Hannah Custer; and great-grandchildren, Joel Alvarado, Kayli Alvarado, Greyson Alvarado, Jayda Alvarado, Isla Bilston, and Jude Bilston.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Custer was preceded in death by a son, Jearol “J.E.” Custer; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Custer.
Pastor Michael Fallin will conduct a funeral service on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Weaver’s Mennonite Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, April 6, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
