On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Judy Denise Thompson, 66, of McGaheysville, was called home into the arms of Jesus. Judy was born to Wiley and Mary Jeanette Guinn on November 3, 1957, in Dallas, Texas.
Judy was a member of Mt. Olive Brethren Church for over 20 years until she joined her daughter’s Liberty Brethren Church in Quicksburg in 2021. She graduated from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, Calif. in 1976. Then with a bachelor’s in English and Education from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1985. Judy served as a teacher for 32 years. Twenty-four of which in Rockingham County. In 2019, Judy retired from teaching at Elkton Elementary School.
Judy married her beloved husband, the late Thomas Lee Thompson, on September 3, 1977, in Burbank, California. They shared an abundant life for 44 years. Together, they raised three children, all of whom carry out the legacy of love set before them. Judy and Tom spent their days with adventure, laughter, and joy. Today, Judy and Tom are once again united in Heaven.
Later in life, Judy enjoyed activities from retired teacher luncheons to basket-making classes. She took part in Mt. Olive’s weekly Growth Group. Judy shared her love in abundance, especially with her family and friends.
Judy is survived by her mother-in-law, Joyce; daughter, Angela, and husband, William (Billy) Wheeler; daughter, Melanie, and husband, Montana (Joe) Wylie; son, David, and wife, Casey Thompson. Judy is survived by nine grandchildren, Blake, Brooke, Emily, Christopher, Gabriel, Brianna, Natalie, Graham, and Heidi, and two great-grandsons, Hunter and Weston. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Mary Jeanette. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom.
Judy wishes to extend a special thanks to Alan and Kathy Shull and Carolyn Phillips for their love and support.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with her daughter, the Rev. Melanie Wylie, and the Rev. Dr. Fred Miller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
