Joanne Carol Hoover, 86, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Journey’s Crossing.

Miss Hoover was born on July 15, 1937 in Rockingham County, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Boyd Bernard and Margie Rose Reubush Hoover. She graduated from Bridgewater High School and attended Dunsmore Business School. She was employed as secretary for Schewels Furniture Store and Hughes Pharmacy.  She was a member of Frieden’s United Church of Christ.

Surviving is her sister, Kathy H. Payne of Singers Glen; nieces and nephews, Monica Leach, David Leach, Kevin Payne, Roseann Hoover, Crystal Hoover; special friend, Betty Morris; and numerous great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Miss Hoover was preceded in death by her siblings, Eleanor Hoover Leach, William Herbert Hoover, Claude Franklin Hoover; and two nephews, Jeff Payne and Tony Hoover.

Reverend Doyle Payne will conduct a graveside service on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Frieden’s United Church of Christ Cemetery.

At her request, the casket will be closed, however, friends and family are welcome to sign the register book on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frieden’s United Church of Christ, 3690 Friedens Church Road, Mt. Crawford, VA 22841.
