ARLINGTON, Texas (JMU Athletics) – With the 122nd overall pick, the Miami Marlins selected James Madison junior Fenwick Trimble in the fourth round of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday afternoon.

Trimble is the 11th Duke drafted under head coach Marlin Ikenberry and marks the first time JMU has had a player drafted in three consecutive Drafts since 2017-19. The Virginia Beach, Va. native is the 11th-highest drafted Duke and the first Duke in program history to be selected by the Florida/Miami franchise.

The 17th All-American in program history after being selected to the second team by the NCBWA, Trimble is coming off a season that saw him help lead the Dukes to their first NCAA Regional berth since 2011. He led the team in batting average (.369), on-base percentage (.452), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.087), doubles (21), RBI’s (65), runs scored (71), hits (90), total bases (155) and at bats (244). In addition, he finished second in slugging percentage (.635) and stolen bases (16) and third in home runs (14).

The All-Sun Belt First Team selection ended the year in the top 10 of six single-season statistical categories for JMU, finishing third in runs scored, sixth in at bats, tied for sixth in hits, seventh in total bases, ninth in doubles and tied for 10th in RBI’s. He recorded the 14th 20-double season in program history, becoming the second JMU player to record back-to-back 20-double seasons and the third to post multiple seasons with 20 doubles. His runs scored tally is the third time a Duke has scored more than 70 runs in a season.

For his three-year career in Harrisonburg, the outfielder played in and started 169 games for the Dukes while posting a slash line of .332/.431/.576. He recorded a total of 222 hits with three triples, 34 homers and 55 doubles while driving in 156 runs and scoring 165 runs. He also tallied 27 stolen bases. Trimble ranks tied for sixth in doubles for a JMU career and tied for seventh in home runs.
