(JMU Athletics) – James Madison lacrosse junior attacker Maddie Epke has been named the American Athletic Conference Attack Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Epke was instrumental in JMU’s 2-0 week, leading a comeback 15-11 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and an 11-8 win over UConn at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.
Against the Hokies, Epke recorded a team-best six goals while dishing out a game-best three assists to finish with a career-high nine points and 14 draw controls. The native of Guilford, Conn. followed up that performance scoring four goals on six shots against UConn. Epke is currently tied for first in the league and 17th in the country in draw controls per game (7.67).
Freshman Chloe Bleckley was also tabbed Honorable Mention for Weekly Honors from the conference, after recorded a goal in each contest this week. The midfielder also picked career-highs in ground balls (two) and caused turnovers (two) against UConn.
The No. 18 Dukes resume game action next Wednesday, Feb. 26th at 5 p.m. when they welcome No.19 Richmond to Sentara Park for the home opener.
