HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Trailing 59-55 heading into the fourth quarter, James Madison women’s basketball held Coastal Carolina to 5-of-18 (.278) from the field and 0-for-9 from three in the final frame for a 76-69 triumph over the Chanticleers inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Sunday afternoon in Sun Belt action.

JMU (17-4, 9-0 SBC) outscored Coastal (13-6, 4-5 SBC) 21-10 in the fourth and dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 11-5 in the frame.

Coastal opened the game by making 2-of-3 (.667) from deep but connected on just 2-of-25 (.080) the rest of the way, including going 0-for-15 in the second half.

For the second game in a row, Peyton McDaniel and Kseniia Kozlova notched double-doubles to fuel the Dukes’ victory. McDaniel knocked down 5-of-11 (.455) from beyond the arc for 23 points and came away with 10 rebounds to go along with a career-high three blocks. Kozlova finished with 14 points and 10 boards, including five on the offensive end.

Ro Scott was instrumental off the bench, registering 12 points and seven rebounds, and hitting 5-of-5 from the line. Ashanti Barnes also recorded an efficient outing with 12 points and seven boards, while Bree Robinson collected four rebounds and three steals.

Jayden Marable paced the Chanticleers with 20 points on 9-of-14 (.643) from the field and grabbed six boards. Teammate Savannah Brooks poured in 16 points, going 7-for-8 (.875) from the charity stripe. Alancia Ramsey led all players with 13 rebounds and added eight points in the loss.

How It Happened
First Quarter – CCU 21, JMU 18
• Coastal connected on two quick threes and took advantage of a JMU turnover for an 8-0 lead just over two minutes into the contest.
• A wing triple from McDaniel tied the game at 18 with 1:46 remaining, but the Chanticleers converted on an and-one play to take a three-point edge (21-18) before the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter – CCU 41, JMU 36
• The Dukes started the quarter with a driving layup from Barnes, but they failed to make a field goal for the next 6:15 until Kozlova ended the drought with a basket at 3:21.
• CCU capitalized on a second-chance layup before time expired to make it a five-point game (41-36) at the break.

Third Quarter – CCU 59, JMU 55
• Back-to-back treys from Scott and McDaniel cut the deficit to one (51-50) at the media timeout.
• A fast-break triple by McDaniel put the Dukes ahead 55-53 with 2:18 to go, however, the Chanticleers responded with a 6-0 run to close the period.

Fourth Quarter – JMU 76, CCU 69
• JMU scored on consecutive possessions to make it 59-59 at 9:17 and force a CCU timeout.
• The Dukes took their largest lead at 71-63 after physical buckets from Kozlova, Barnes and Robinson with 3:31 remaining as part of an 8-0 run.

Game Notes
• The win marked the Dukes’ ninth straight –the team’s longest winning streak since recording 13 consecutive victories from Nov. 23, 2022, to Jan. 14, 2023.
• The last time JMU started 9-0 or better in conference play was during the 2017-18 campaign when Head Coach Sean O’Regan’s squad began the season 10-0 as members of the Colonial Athletic Association.
• James Madison is 6-1 in the all-time series against Coastal Carolina and has won the last four matchups.
• The Dukes held an advantage in bench points (18-10) and fast-break points (10-6), while the Chanticleers led in points in the paint (36-26), second-chance points (18-11) and points off turnovers (15-8).
• JMU came out with the victory despite leading for just 8:56. The team’s least amount of time with the lead in a win this season was 3:28 in a 71-67 win at Villanova on Dec. 15.
• With double-doubles by McDaniel (23 points and 10 rebounds) and Kozlova (14 points and 10 rebounds), the Dukes have registered three straight games with two players recording double-doubles.
• Additionally, in those three games, McDaniel has half of the Dukes’ six double-doubles, with Kozlova adding two and Barnes contributing another.
• McDaniel registered a career-high three blocks against the Chanticleers, which gives her a career-best five-game streak of tallying at least one block.
• With three steals on the day, Robinson has eight games during the 2024-25 campaign with three or more steals.
• The Chanticleers’ 41 first-half points are the most by a Sun Belt opponent in a regular season game since App State also scored 41 on Feb. 24, 2024.
• CCU’s 69 points are the most points the Dukes have allowed to league foe in conference play so far. Previously, Georgia Southern scored 68 points on Jan. 11.
